What makes it special

The Oak Garden sits on the bank of the Kamo with Higashiyama across the water. It was built as a private villa in the manner of a Miami resort hotel, with the riverside garden running straight into the indoor rooms. Kyoto Station is twelve minutes by car.

Bettei Kiya, beside the villa, is a Kyo-machiya townhouse that has been a restaurant for a century and a half. It seats 36 and is taken with The Oak Garden as one booking, so a couple has a modern villa and a historic townhouse for the same day.

Behind Kiya is a traditional Japanese garden of about 3,300 square metres. Portraits, family photographs and group shots happen here, in whatever season the wedding falls, without leaving the property.

The kitchen grills seasonal Kyoto produce over wood and charcoal embers, adjusting the heat for each ingredient. Guests see the flame and hear the charcoal, which is the point.
About the venue
The Oak Garden and Bettei Kiya are two buildings on one riverside site in Nakagyo-ku, near the centre of Kyoto. The villa is contemporary and open; the machiya is 150 years old and enclosed. Both are hired exclusively, and both look out onto the Kamo and the hills of Higashiyama.
Kyoto Shiyakusho-mae Station on the Tozai Line is two minutes on foot. From Kansai International Airport the Haruka limited express reaches Kyoto Station in about eighty minutes, with a further twelve by taxi.

Getting there
Two minutes on foot from Kyoto Shiyakusho-mae Station, on the Kyoto City Subway Tozai Line. About twelve minutes by car from JR Kyoto Station. From Kansai International Airport, about ninety minutes by car, or the JR Haruka limited express to Kyoto Station in about eighty minutes and then twelve minutes by train, bus or taxi.
